Donated goods have the power to make a difference in people’s lives, strengthen communities and create a healthier environment. Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc. receives and sorts through thousands of pounds of gently used clothing and other household items every day to help keep millions of pounds of goods from polluting the Earth each year. Goodwill is doing its part to help keep the environment clean for future generations.

Since 2009, we have recycled 115 million pounds of goods as an organization. In 2013, we diverted 21 million pounds of goods from landfills.

This includes:

  • 1,734,603 pounds of books
  • 160,220 pounds of cardboard
  • 10,623,751 pounds of clothing
  • 119,796 pounds of handbags
  • 262,407 pounds of linens
  • 550,543 pounds of scrap metal
  • 423,520 pounds of shoes
  • Approximately 6,000,000 pounds sold in stores

Additionally, we were able to recycle 472,694 pounds of computer equipment for the Dell Reconnect Program in 2013.
