Goodwill’s Transitional Work Program

Jonathan Balog Uncategorized 1 Comment

As an older worker and an ex-offender, Ernie had trouble finding employment. His
family often relied on him for support, which made it more difficult. He successfully completed Goodwill’s Transitional Work program and was hired full-time with Goodwill while also maintaining a part-time position with another company.

Goodwill’s  Transitional Work Program provides on-the-job training opportunities to individuals with minimal or no work experience upon completion of job readiness training. Participants receive hands-on experience at Goodwill’s retail and administrative locations that
will help them transition into the competitive work environment.

During his time in training with Goodwill, Ernie was also able to purchase a vehicle. In his current position, Ernie is a hardworking, team player who wants to continue to grow and develop his skills for future promotions.

I would like to find out more information about your services. I am absolutely at wits end trying to find employment after being incarcerated for 2 years for Possession CDS. I am 36 years old, have a High School Diploma from Loyola Blakefield and 90 credits from the University of Maryland, College Park. In 2001 I was prescribed Oxycontin which led to a full blown addiction to prescription Narcotics and eventually Heroin. I have been in recovery for the past 3 years and am trying everything I can to get myself back into the swing of a productive life. I have 2 children and a family that loves and cares about me. Most importantly, I love and care about myself and know that if I am going to be successful this time I need to find employment and reinvent myself. I am completely alone in this struggle and am reaching out for any kind of assistance that your organization can give me. Just a little bit about my self/skills. I am very proficient in all levels of PC administration, from hardware to software to networking. I have taken coursework related to COMPTIA A+ and NET+ certification. I passed my A+ certification exam in 2012, but due to the fact that the certification is only good for 3 years, I am going to have to get it renewed. In 2011, after completing Second Genesis, a residential Therapuetic Community, I enrolled in the Maryland Pathways to Cyber Security program and was taking classes to obtain my certifications. I tried to do everything on my own back then and could not find a job. I am experienced in installing/setting up networks, CCTV systems, and am very proficient with all Office Administration software. I have experience in Sales, Technical Support, Office Administration, and a variety of positions in the service industry (server, bartender, supervisor). I can only hope and pray that there is some sort of help that your organization can offer to help me get back on my feet. I am confident that if I can get my feet inside the door, I will do great. Unfortunately that is much easier said than done. I have skills that would benefit any organization and feel like if given the opportunity to show a company who I really am (not just my past) they would be very pleased to have me. Please let me know if there is any help that you can offer. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
